The VOGUE iPad app from Condé Nast is a fusion of glossy magazine and up-to-date content. The application can be downloaded with immediate effect from the iTunes store, making VOGUE the first-ever fashion publication to be available on the iPad in Europe.
Moritz von Laffert, President of Condé Nast Germany, states, “The VOGUE magazine brand is a worldwide legend, and a synonym for fashion and style. With the new app we aim to transfer the aesthetic appeal and visual richness of this brand to a corresponding experience on a digital device.” The application was developed specifically for the iPad and is updated daily, combining magazine content with material created specially for the iPad. The result is a novel media experience. The VOGUE app offers an exciting visual environment that draws the user intuitively into the world of fashion.
User navigation is primarily based on three horizontal themes:
News: Tips, trends, and news, updated daily, related to fashion, beauty, culture, lifestyle and society.
Themes: Selected excerpts from the print publication, such as interviews with stars and designers, and photo spreads, supported by behind-the-scenes material, such as stills and videos. The current content includes, for example, a making-of-video of the cover story featuring top model Cameron Russell (July issue), background infos on the recent “VOGUE Gespräch” between Juliette Binoche and movie director Abbas Kiarostami, plus an interview with Hillary Swank. A further highlight of this subject category is the VOGUE cover archive, shedding light on contemporary history: an attractive gallery of the impressive VOGUE Germany front covers from the past 30 years.
Trends: The latest fashion trends, extensive slide shows with a huge range of catwalk images featuring the big-name designers, videos of international fashion shows, plus today’s street looks.
This is a perfect application for the iPad! And over time, if a user accumulates a year’s subscription of Vogue magazine on the iPad, this would be way easier to lug around rather than 12 paper copies. Hopefully, other magazine publishers will follow suit.
