GOGII today announced its textPlus App for iPad is now available from the App Store. The app gives iPad users the ability to send and receive text messages using WiFi. The textPlus App for iPad also allows texting conversations to transition seamlessly between a user’s iPad and another mobile device with textPlus installed, such as an iPhone or iPod touch. A text conversation initiated on the iPhone can be picked up later – without disrupting the flow – on the iPad, and vice versa.
“The ability to seamlessly access a single ongoing conversation from multiple devices lets users text where it makes most sense – on the bus home using their iPhone, and then later on the couch while reading a book on their iPad. Same conversation, different device,” said Scott Lahman, CEO and Co-Founder of GOGII, the creator of textPlus.
The textPlus App allows users to text to any text-enabled phone in the U.S. and Canada, as well as text from app to app anywhere in the world, for free. textPlus allows one-on-one and group texting in a chatroom-like environment using reply-all functionality. Multiple users participate in a conversation, and can chime in at any point.
Like the textPlus App for iPod touch, textPlus for iPad eliminates the need for a phone number to receive texts. By using textPlus’s permanent short code 60611, users from any phone can reach textPlus users. All non-app users have to do is text their friend’s textPlus address (their username) to 60611, and the conversation begins.
“We’re looking at a whole new way for organizations, personal groups and individuals to stay up to date,” added Lahman. “Imagine being able to gossip with your friends on the iPad while reading a breaking celeb news item on a blog, or mulling over your next book club selection with other members while you search reviews online.”
